farming

In January 2024, we purchased 18 acres of farmland in Gilbertsville, PA with the goal to provide a new model for land access and resource sharing to farmers. We achieve this goal by providing long-term leasing opportunities with access to resources necessary for thriving farm businesses.

Meet the farmers

  • Max & Roberta

    THE BEST ROUTE

Max and Roberta started The Best Route in early 2023 with the goal of helping mobile markets get started, helping organizations build orogramsyand maybe one day operating a market again. They both worked at the Chester County Food Bank for many years operating their mobile markets. Max doesn’t like “down” time so within a couple of months, they bought their first vehicle-this bus! She was a project and unfortunately a tree fell on her. Luckily Max and Roberta were busy consulting and did well enough to try again, this time with the step van known as Franky. The one’s parked at Tomorrow’s Homestead! Max and Roberta operate their business with the goal of being financially sustainable while bringing good food to people with limited access. Their goal at Tomorrow’s Homestead is to work with each of the other farmer and external partners to source locally for their market. The Best Route will be in SNAP retailers soon and hopefully be eligible to accept FMNP in 2025. Max and Roberta have received a grant to build out a small processing kitchen on the property that they hope will be of use to all the farmers as well.

  • Rachel

    WILD HEART FARM

Rachel started Wild Heart Farm with the dream of putting her years of experience working in agriculture to good use and growing fresh, local veggies for the local community. Wild Heart Farm is a diversified vegetable farm that honors our local ecosystem by using regenerative practices and embraces “human-scale” (small!) farming principles.

She is passionate about expanding access of fresh, local produce to all people and seeks collaborations to accomplish that mission.

  • Michael

Michael has worked as a landscaper for over twenty years and has owned and operated two restaurants of his own out west. His background in landscape construction, ornamental landscape care, and food production gives him a good foundation to understand the market gardening.

Michael is passionate about organic bio-intensive vegetable production, flower production, and regenerative livestock farming. He follows practices from books like "The Market Gardener" by Jean-Martin Fortier.  Everyday , Michael furthers his knowledge of the soil food web, regenerative farming, and best market garden practices.

What’s going on at the farm

In addition to our farming leases, we’ve got lots of projects happening at the farm!

We’re raising chickens!

You can find our eggs (and other products from our farm!) at our market stand in front of our big red barn. Open every day 8 am to 6 pm!
